LIVE INSTALLATIONS: Discovery Centre
Five live installations in response to the themes of Making It, which will unfold over four days in different parts of the Discovery Centre. Each maker brings a surprising and inventive approach to their use of materials and the creative process to stimulate curiosity, conversations and participation.
The line up includes:
The Making Girl • Nicola Barker
Dressed in character as The Making Girl, Nicola will create a floor to wall installation. Using a variety of everyday materials to reveal her process of embroidering, stitching, threading, binding, arranging, sewing, collaging and constructing into a floor covering.
Bicycle Spirograph • Nick Sayers
The Heath Robinson inspired workshop to demonstrate the beauty of mechanics and geometry and creative reuse of materials in a quick, quirky and fun way.
Return to Sender • 5am
A collaborative project, their aim is to show a collection of the work they have made during this project, with film images to show the evolving nature of the project and the individuality of their own practice.
The Process of Making by Alec Stevens
A temporary installation which can engage the public in helping him as “the maker of objects” in the process of formulating an idea which he will then make live.
Stitch Type • Gemma Latham
A participatory installation that explores the link between textiles and text and reveals the planning process that is intrinsic to traditional textile craft practises.
