Five live installations in response to the themes of Making It, which will unfold over four days in different parts of the Discovery Centre. Each maker brings a surprising and inventive approach to their use of materials and the creative process to stimulate curiosity, conversations and participation.

The Making Girl • Nicola Barker

Dressed in character as The Making Girl, Nicola will create a floor to wall installation. Using a variety of everyday materials to reveal her process of embroidering, stitching, threading, binding, arranging, sewing, collaging and constructing into a floor covering.

The Heath Robinson inspired workshop to demonstrate the beauty of mechanics and geometry and creative reuse of materials in a quick, quirky and fun way.

A collaborative project, their aim is to show a collection of the work they have made during this project, with film images to show the evolving nature of the project and the individuality of their own practice.

A temporary installation which can engage the public in helping him as “the maker of objects” in the process of formulating an idea which he will then make live.
